MAYAPOLOOZA - Nov. 8-13, 2012 - Isla Robinson Crusoe Island, CHILE
Monuments
View north of southern face of the monument depicting Sun God emerging from a snail shell. The snail shell symbolizes time and has associations with the December solstice.
View south of northern face showing crouching jaguar.  The jaguar was the patron of Mayan royalty.  The spotted fur represented star constellations while the animal's nocturnal nature further reinforced nighttime aspects.  The northern half of the Sun God face is missing here and has been missing since my initial discovery of the monument in 1996.  Visit the Photo Gallery for more photos.
Simulated view of Total Solar Eclipse during sunset on November 13, 2012.  The total eclipse is not seen on continental South America.
